Lethbridge College’s Spatial Technologies Applied Research and Training (START) Centre, the hub for Alberta’s extended reality (XR) tech sector, presents a first-in-Alberta opportunity for your high school students with an interest in technology and a drive to compete.

 

HACK AND SEEK: ALBERTA XR CAREER QUEST

May 3-5, 2024

A competition held simultaneously in Lethbridge, Calgary and Edmonton

 

Any Grade 10, 11 or 12 student in Alberta can apply now for the chance to compete.

If selected, students will:

  • Be provided three training workshops to get familiar with development tools
  • Be assigned to a team of three to create a virtual reality (VR) application for use in a real-world scenario
  • Present their design to a panel of industry experts who will pick Alberta’s first Hack and Seek champion

 

Students don’t need experience coding or developing apps in extended reality (XR) to compete for bragging rights and prizes. Selected students will leave this free event with valuable experience collaborating, competing, developing and pitching their ideas.

High Level Innovation Conference - Tech, Tourism and Gaming

We are excited to invite the community, your students, and you to attend our upcoming event this May 3rd & 4th to enjoy the High Level Innovation Conference.   

The conference is focused on tech, tourism, and gaming. We anticipate approximately 80 Exhibitors in tourism, food and agriculture, the trades, BIPOC businesses, gaming and emerging tech.  In addition, we have partnered with the Alberta Esports Championship (AEC2024) which is hosting a provincial championship for High School Esports teams from across Alberta for the first time in Lethbridge.  The organizing committee has also partnered with a by donation event called the Geek Fest 2024 on the Saturday (May 4th) which you are welcome to attend in conjunction with this event if returning on the weekend date. Our High Level Innovation Conference is an excellent opportunity for your students to learn about, and experience, all things technology, business, and innovation!

The High Level Innovation conference will be held at The Lethbridge District & Exhibition at the new Agrifood Hub.  On Friday, May 3rd, the first two hours of the conference are reserved for youth and students from 10am to 12pm. 

Having the conference all to themselves, they can deep dive into everything the exhibitors, speaker sessions, and connections have to offer.  The hiring hangar starts at noon as well just afterwards, so bring those resumes! Youth under 18 are FREE to attend and have the chance of winning valuable door prizes just by showing up. This is a perfect opportunity for your students to connect with potential future employers and the RAP program, cheer on their peers at the Alberta Esports Championship, and become immersed in tech, tourism, business, and innovation.

    that you are under 18 years of age or an accompanying parent/guardian over 18 and are
    attending for the exclusive under 18 first 2-hours of the conference
  3. You are welcome to stay and enjoy the rest of the conference all day Friday and Saturday.
  4. Don't forget to bring resumes if you are job-seeking!
