SAT Boot Camp

Time: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

The EducationUSA SAT Boot Camp is a five-session intensive for Canadian students who are preparing to take the SAT exam (ideally in Grades 10 or 11). These sessions are free of charge.

  • Session 1 (4 hours): Full-length Practice Test - this will be a live, proctored practice test
  • Session 2 (2 hours): The SAT in admissions - general information about the SAT, registration, and time management tips
  • Session 3 (2 hours): Reading Comprehension strategies
  • Session 4 (2 hours): Math and Writing strategies
  • Session 5 (3.5 hours): Full-length Practice Test - another practice test and a chance to practice your new skills!

It is best to attend all sessions, but it is okay to just come to the ones that you can. All sessions will be recorded, in case you are unable to make it. All registered attendees will receive a recording via email after the event.

Discover what someone in the job actual does, get a live tour of work environments and learn about the post-secondary requirements. We will show you a day in the life of these occupations. Get experience!

Cooks prepare food in eating establishments including hotels, restaurants, institutions, trains and ships. Their major responsibilities are nutrition, food costs and sanitation.

Genomicist and Bioinformatician Career Exploration Session

Time: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Genomics and Bioinformatics are part of the fourth industrial revolution. Genomic technologies have made a huge impact across many fields such as medicine, agriculture and environmental management. From this generated information, bioinformatics has emerged, focusing on the analysis of these large data sets. Join Dr. Pantazi and Dr. Zovoilis, of the Southern Alberta Genome Sciences Centre, for a walk through this exciting field that is experiencing a huge surge in demand for skilled personnel.

Each student needs to register in advance in order to receive a link to the virtual events. The deadline to register is 12:00 pm the morning of the event. Career Exploration Sessions are run as a Meeting on Microsoft Teams. Further instructions along with the link will be sent directly to the student(s).

The sessions will be recorded and posted to our website within 5 days of the event. Any student who was unable to attend the live session can be directed here: (https://www.careersteps.ca/exploration-sessions/). Obviously, the advantage of attending in person is that students can ask questions of the host during the live event.

Engineering Career Exploration Session

Session details:This session introduces the profession of engineering, with examples of engineering within the Lethbridge community, including details on how Prof. Spencer turned a BSc. in Engineering into a career working on space instrumentation, and how the University of Lethbridge Engineering transfer program can help students in our region become professional engineers.

Build a Dream Career Expo

Join Palliser Regional School in partnership with Build a Dream, a non-profit organization from Windsor, ON - as they host a virtual career expo. The expo will explore and promote careers in STEM, Skilled Trades, Emergency Response, Entrepreneurship and Leadership. The event is for parents and young women in Palliser and you are able to enjoy the expo from the comfort of your home. 
The event will feature multiple panels, games, surveys and prizes! The panels will allow students and parents to hear from local women about their careers in STEM, Skilled Trades, Emergency Response, Entrepreneurship and Leadership. Additionally, students will be able to learn more about what they can do right now to prepare them for these careers!

EMS Paramedic Career Exploration Session

Time: 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Session details:Emergency Medical Services is a dynamic field in healthcare. Not only is our working environment filled with constantly changing situations, our protocols for patient treatment are also constantly evolving and expanding. This gives paramedics greater ability to treat patients in the out of hospital environment. EMS has also embraced the latest technology including the use of GPS/ Computer Aided Dispatch (“CAD”) on our units, utilizing electronic record keeping (tablet EPCR) and other advances such the use of industry standard cardiac monitoring equipment (LP15s), IV pumps, and power-assisted stretcher load systems.
