Scholarships to check out

10 Words or Less Scholarship - Follow the instructions to apply for this $500 scholarship.  Open to anyone 14-25 years of age who will be attending school in the fall.

Alex Schaap Memorial Scholarship - This $1000 scholarship is available to grade 12 students from Palliser schools planning to pursue post-secondary education in technology.  Apply by May 15.

Ambrose University Scholarships - A variety of scholarships are available including scholarships dedicated to students from Christian Schools for Academic Excellence and Leadership Excellence.

Burger King Scholars Program - Scholarships range from $1,000 to $50,000.  Recipients are selected based on grades, work experience, extracurricular activities and/or community service.  Apply by December 15.

Calvinism Awards - Awards are given annually for research papers on a topic dealing with John Calvin or Calvinism.  Awards are payable to student tuition accounts at the following colleges:  Calvin, Dordt, King's (Canada), redeemer (Canada) Kuyper, and Trinity Christian College.  First prize - $3500, three second prizes - $2000.  Apply before February 3, 2020.

Canadian Mennonite University Essay Contest - Win your choice of prizes worth approximately $700.  Contest closes May 15.

Childcare Scholarship from Alberta Human Services -  $2500 available to students committed to pursuing a career in childcare.  Students must register in and attend an early learning and childcare certificate, diploma or degree program and sign a service commitment agreeing to work in a licensed or approved child care program for one year.

Christian Credit Union Scholarship - If you attend Calgary Christian School, and you're a member of the Christian Credit Union before March 31, check out this $750 scholarship.

CPA Alberta (Chartered Professional Accountants) - Apply for scholarships ranging from $1,500-$2,500 before February 28.

DCCI Scholarship for Canadian Students with Disabilities - Apply for this $1000 scholarship if you have a physical or psychological disability.  

Father Ted Colleton Right to Life Scholarship - Three prizes ($500, $800 and $1500) available to students in grade 11 and 12, based on an essay, self-profile and letter of reference.  Apply by December 1.

First Calgary Financial Matched Savings Scholarship Program - Current grade 11 students can apply for this program by June 1.

Future Educator's Award - Phi Delta Kappa International invites graduating high school students who are prospective educators to apply for their $500 Future Educator's Award.

John Hasselfield Endowment Foundation Scholarship Program - Receive up to $350 to pursue your passions (note this scholarship does not support post-secondary education costs - it's for pursuing other passions and projects.  See website for examples.)

Horatio Alger Scholarship Program  - Up to $10,000 available to students pursuing full-time studies in the coming fall with critical financial need ($55,000 or less net family income or extenuating circumstances), exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  Deadline: October 25.

Horatio Alger National Vocational & Technical Scholarship Program - Receive up to $3000 to pursue vocational and technical education.  Program must be 3 years or less.  Apply by July 15.

IODE Coronation Bursary - $1000 bursary based on extra-curricular involvement and financial need, not academic achievement.  Apply by July 15.  See application file at the bottom of this page.

James Rintoul Occupational Health and Safety Memorial Scholarship - Up to $5,500 available to a student enrolled in courses leading to the Occupational Health and Safety Certificate at the University of Alberta.  Deadline:  May 1.

Kinsman Canada Bursaries - $1000 bursaries available to students chosen on the basis of their community and school involvement, knowledge of Kin Canada and financial need.  Deadline: Feb. 1.

Kyle Block Scholarship - This award (minimum $2500) is for students in any year of study at a qualified post-secondary institution in BC, AB or SK.  Involvement in sport (preferably high level hockey), music, fine arts or social just issues through direct participation or volunteer activities will be considered.  Must demonstrate financial need and high academic achievement.

Lifestyle Dentistry Scholarship - You can apply for this scholarship if you are a grade 12 student this year and you are going to college or university in September, 2015.  You can be enrolled in any field of study.

Learn and Earn Scholarship - Participants take part in a ten-month match savings program.  First Calgary Credit Union will match savings 2:1 to a maximum of $1,000.  Priority is given to students who live in the neighbourhood of a first Calgary Credit Union who are motivated, have some form of employment, and face financial barriers to achieving their career or education goals.  Apply in September.

Loran Scholars - This highly competitive scholarship includes an annual $9000 living stipend and tuition waiver is awarded to 30 Canadian students.  Visit the website for details on the rigorous application process.

Marit McKenzie Fine Arts Scholarship - $1000 scholarships available to grade 12 Palliser students planning to study Fine Arts.  Apply by May 15.

McDonald's Restaurants - McDonald's restaurants offers scholarships for employees.  If you work at McDonald's, ask your manager for information on how to apply.

MindFuel Scholarships - Scholarships are now available to students who are graduating from an Alberta high school and are entering their first year in an undergraduate applied science or science education program at an Alberta-based post-secondary institution in fall 2015.  Apply by May 15.

Monsanto Opportunity Scholarship -  $1500 scholarships are available to grade 12 students planning to enroll at a Canadian post-secondary institution (degree or diploma) in a first year agriculture, food science or culinary program.  Winners will be selected based on demonstrated academic standards and leadership in the community.  Apply before June 15.

Nelson Scholarship - Three $5000 scholarships are available to students who are going the extra mile to make a difference in their community and have an average of over 75%.  Apply by June 1. 

RBC Students Leading Change Scholarships - Do you have a passion to lead an inspire positive change in your community?  Do you have a minimum average of 70% in grade 11?  Apply for one of five $10,000 scholarships for high school graduates planning to attend a public university in the fall.

RAP/CTS Scholarships - Five hundred $1000 scholarships area awarded to Alberta high school students in Registered Apprenticeship Programs or Career and Technology Studies apprenticeship pathways to encouraged students to continue and complete their apprenticeship training.  Application deadline is June 30.

RE/MAX of Western Canada Quest For Excellence - Sixteen bursaries of $1000 are awarded to grade 12 students to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and community contribution initiatives.  Click the Information Flyer for essay details.  Apply by March 11, 2019.

Schulich Leader Scholarships - This highly competitive, prestigious award of $60,000 is given to 40 students across Canada attending a variety of universities.  Check the website for bios of past Schulich Leaders.  If you think you've got what it takes, follow the instructions on the application process page.

Senator Patrick Burns Legacy Scholarship - Four $2500 scholarships are available to grade 12 students from Calgary who are experiencing financial challenges.  

Shelagh Mikulak Memorial Scholarship in Library Sciences - To be awarded to a student in any year of study at a Canadian Post-secondary institution, enrolled in a Library Technician program, certificate program, undergraduate or graduate degree who demonstrates a passion for the library sciences field.  Financial need also considered.  Apply by June 1.

South Country Co-op Scholarship - $1000 scholarships available to students who are graduating from a school in South Country Co-op's trading area and whose families are members of South Country Co-op and spent a minimum of $3,500 in the current fiscal year.  Apply by May 31.

St. Mary’s President’s Circle Scholarships - Automatic scholarships are awarded to students based on their grade 11 or 12 averages:  80% or higher receives $1000, 85% or higher receives $1750, 90% or higher receives $2500.

Stacey Levitt Memorial Award -  The Levitt family will award the selected recipient $2,500 to ultimately live their life to the fullest. This can be accomplished through extension of education, engagement in sports and recreational activities, or investment into a travel experience.  

STEAM Horizon Awards - Are you often described as a leader, an achiever, or an innovator?  Do you have limitless drive, ambition, and determination?  Are you interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and/or Math?  If so, there's an opportunity to receive $25,000 towards your post-secondary education.  Apply by January 9, 2017.

Starbucks Tuition Reimbursement - If you're a Starbucks' employee, you might qualify for tuition reimbursement when you are at University.  Log in at Life at Starbucks for more information.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership - If you're making a difference in your community, whether it's big or small, you could be one of 20 students to receive a full TD scholarship, worth up to $70,000.

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program - Up to $7000 available to students who embody Terry Fox's dedication and selflessness in the face of adversity.  Deadline - Feb. 1.

Tim Horton's Scholarships - If you are a Tim Horton's team member (regular full-time, part-time or year-over-year summer employee, or child/grandchild of an employee), you can apply for one of two hundred $1000 scholarships offered to Canadian students.

UBC Entrance Award - The purpose of these awards is to support academically qualified students who show an interested in joining the UBC community, but who would not otherwise be able to attend without significant financial assistance. (Note - this is different than the UBC Entrance Scholarships.  Students may apply for both the Award and the Scholarship.) Apply by December 1.

University of Prince Edward Island Scholarships with preference for students from Calgary - Apply for scholarships with a variety of criteria for students in a variety of disciplines including nursing and business, ranging from $1,000-$5,000.  Apply by March 1.

University of Lethbridge Grade 11 Merit Award - Apply for this scholarship before June 30 of your grade 11 year.  If you attend the University of Lethbridge the year after you graduate (or after a gap year without studying at another post-secondary institution) you will receive this $1000 award.

Wizedemy $1000 Scholarship - Spend three minutes applying for this cash scholarship to help with your transition to post-secondary life.  

ZEQR $1000 Scholarship - Write an article about online learning to compete for this $1000 scholarship.  Open to high school and university students.  Apply by Dec. 15.
